We tried to game on new SpaceX Starlink Beta: Web Browsing, Uploading, Gaming Tests

There are currently over 1,000 Starlink satellites in orbit, and someday there will be 42,000. Starlink is currently in beta testing and not everyone is in the right geographical location to try it out, so we decided to test it for you!

We definitely had some unexpected issues with spotty connection, but we were able to upload a youtube video very easily and stream in 4K. However, when we tried to play Warzone, we were disappointed several times by a lost connection.
Still, Starlink is just getting started and will someday provide internet access to the world.
On a really good day, SpaceX competitors (standard ISPs) will see a sixth of the average speed Starlink provides. This is most likely already a way better option than current ISPs can offer to those in rural areas. This is a GAME CHANGER.

There are currently no data caps… music to the ears of most satellite internet users who have to deal with data caps and throttling of speeds.

Here’s their plan: Better Than Nothing Beta.

Estimated speeds 50Mbps to 150Mbps

Estimated latency 20ms to 40ms

Some interruptions in connectivity to be expected

$499 for the phased array antenna and router

$99 per month subscription

What is the speed and latency?
Most wired internet users are getting around 100Mbps and most satellite internet users are getting 25Mbps or less ,
Starlink is comparable to an average copper cable wired ethernet connection. Starlink even aims to reach 1000Mbps or 1Gbps which would put it in direct competition with Fiber ISP’s.

So what makes sSarlink so much faster?

Starlink operates at a Low earth orbit at 340Miles away

Compare that to regular Satellite internet ,which is 22,000 miles away.
